What's Really in Processed Pet Foods?

Links to Internet articles and books on processed, dry, commercial pet foods, including facts about the ingredients and manufacturing processes. If you feed your pet dry food (kibble) you owe it to him to know exactly what he's getting and how it can affect his health and quality of life.

Recommended Reading

A list of the books in my personal library. Although there are many others out there, I can only recommend those that I have purchased myself, read, and found helpful in some way. This list is updated periodically.

Garlic Can Be Deadly

If you haven't seen this link on my Treats page, please visit it now. Garlic is a staple in many "natural" pet foods. You'd be hard-pressed to find a homemade or gourmet treat recipe that doesn't contain it (trust me - I've tried). Even traditional and holistic vets recommend garlic as a natural pesticide and as a source of nutritional supplementation. On this page, I reference some of the scientific studies that have been conducted in the last few years that indicate garlic, if fed in large quantities or regularly over a long period of time, can cause catastrophic anemia in cats and dogs. Although the evidence is still in its infancy, I have made the decision not to feed garlic to my pets or include it in any Pets By Nature foods.
